DRIFT

The very first generative open world podcast

Welcome to the very first generative open world podcast, written, voiced and prompted by humans. Delivered to you every day brand new.

DRIFT invites you to listen to the future Dutch landscape where humans, flora and fauna have settled for a new techno-liquid landscape. The story world combines the imaginary with factual data-sources at the pace and rhythm of the lunar phases and the tides of the sea.

Encounter characters reflecting on 21st-century pre-climate collapse struggles, and showing you their adapted lives in the future. Get to know how they’ve embraced a new landscape that marks the Netherlands after sea levels rose by over 10 meters, dealing with daily storms and extreme droughts.

Dive in with an octopus holding up a black mirror to humanity. Follow essential worker Ruben, Aniek or Lex, who do the daily upkeep to make our lives comfy in this future tech-water-environment. Or listen to the barman therapy or the weather forecast or other numerous citizens of Waterdam – a future city in the middle of water, swamps and data.

Inspired by games, immersive theater and digital storytelling we hacked podcasting into a whole new genre and experience.

Accessible on any podcast app via RSS, DRIFT offers around six hours of narrative across 225 short episodes.

In November 2024, DRIFT premiered as part of IDFA DocLab’s digital storytelling competition, a leading festival for interactive narratives.

DRIFT was co-produced by Studio Zzzap and VPRO Medialab, funded by Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie and De Machinerie, and made by an amazing group of people.
