MU ArcHive
A living archive of 25 years of MU
View this workMU Hybrid Art House is all about art in the broadest sense of the word. Together with mainly young makers and a broad, international audience, MU defines the liminal space between ‘what art is and what art can be’. MU is located in a former Philips factory at Strijp S in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
2023 marked MU’s 25th anniversary—a milestone worth celebrating and reflecting on. While MU doesn’t have a permanent collection, they’ve amassed a treasure trove of relics from past exhibitions, stashed away in cardboard boxes and hard drives. The challenge? Turning this archive into something fresh and engaging.
Enter the ArcHive. I teamed up with Rotterdam-based design duo Cream on Chrome and project lead Tijn la Vos to craft an organic, dynamic presentation of hundreds of items. From a photo series on the 2018 Dries Depoorter exhibition to a video of Melvin the Machine, it’s all there.
Visitors can freely browse the ArcHive or dive into predefined tracks, like one exploring the DIY spirit of skate and street culture makers. The searchable database features over 1400 artists and collectives.
Alongside the ArcHive, I developed MU’s main website, based on the same foundation. Media flows between the two platforms, making it easy to feature regular site content in the ArcHive and vice versa.
